The deadline for submitting reimbursements for the 2018-2019 school year is April 30. If your student will be taking any lessons in the month of May or June, please remember to prepay for those lessons and submit for reimbursement prior to the April 30 deadline. May/June lessons will be reimbursed after the lessons have taken place. If you have any questions, please contact your advisor.

Soldotna Office: Thursday Art Share:

The Soldotna office is celebrating student art, grades K-12, every month! Paintings, drawings, ceramics, photography, digital art, etc… all are welcome and encouraged! Submissions can be dropped off anytime during the month, an art activity will start promptly at 3:15 on the Art Share day, see below for dates.

· April: Green Earth theme! Thursday, April 18th from 3-4pm.
**please note: any and all submissions are welcome regardless of theme**

2019 Homeschool Talent Show:

The 2019 Homeschool Talent Show will be on Tuesday, April 30th from 5-6:30pm at the Soldotna High School Auditorium. Connections is looking for homeschool students to join the show and display their talents (singing, instrumental, art, skits, whatever!). We encourage talents of all types and ability levels, and also have an art display at the entrance to show off our student’s artistic abilities as well. NEW: Soldotna Office – Free Tutoring:

We are very excited to have Sara Hadfield and Rebecca Weaver, from the Kenai Peninsula College, at the Soldotna office every week to offer free tutoring to our families.

Sara specializes in English as a English as a Second Language (ESL) and language arts. Her schedule will be Wednesdays from 1:30-3:00pm.

Rebecca specializes in a variety of subjects: math, physics, chemistry and science. Her schedule is Thursdays from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

If you are a parent or a student that needs help in any of these areas, please call our office at 714-8880 to schedule an appointment.

Kenai River Clean Up:

We’re currently recruiting student and parent volunteers to help clean up the river bank and make a positive impact on our community. Volunteers will meet at the Soldotna Visitor’s Center parking lot on May 3rd at 11am. We will clean for a minimum of 1 hour, and we will provide a lunch after the cleaning is complete. Bags & gloves will be provided, please wear waterproof shoes or boots and dress for the weather. If you would like to volunteer please contact Mark Wackler at mwackler@kpbsd.org or 714-8880.

Salmon Celebration:

On Thursday, May 9, 2019 the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish, will be holding the 19th annual “Salmon Celebration” in Kasilof at the Johnson Lake State Campground from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The “Salmon Celebration” will be open to all K-6 school classes from the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District. Elementary school children will able to release rainbow trout catchables from the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery as part of ADF&G’s lake stocking program at a separate activity/station. Nearly thirty hands-on salmon related activity booths (catch and release, face painting, salmon wheel of misfortune, watershed model, salmon life cycle, macroinvertebrate touch tank, animal tracks, mammal skulls and skins, water safety, water quality tests, juvenile & adult salmon identification, practice spin casting and fly casting, and so much more!) will be set up for students to visit during the event.

Grades K-3 are invited to attend from 10:00-1:00 and Grades 4-6 should attend between 11:30-2:00. If you are interested in attending another time, please call me and we can work something out. It takes about 2 hours to do all the activities. Great lunch locations can be found throughout the campground! If you plan to have lunch, please allow for additional time to complete the activities. The above tests are not “scored” and will not show whether students got questions correct or incorrect. If you would like a practice test with answers to score, please use the printable resources to score your own student (the test booklets are the printable version of the online tests).

CENTRAL PENINSULA FAMILES:

The Soldotna office is in the process of scheduling the Performance Evaluation for Alaska’s Schools (PEAKS), April 9 & 10 at Soldotna Prep and April 11 at Soldotna Connections office, for our Central Peninsula families. Letters with details are being sent out, if you have any questions please call us at 714-8880.

SEWARD FAMILES:

April 9th & 10th

Testing Times for both days:
• 8:30 am to 10:30am
• 10:30 am – 12:30pm
• 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Make up testing on the 11th with Julie Lindquist in the Seward office.
