SPRING BREAK: MARCH 11-15: Homer & Seward office closed. Soldotna office will be open with no advisors available and closed for lunch 12:00-1:00pm.

  • 02/19 – GYM TIME for Central Peninsula: Solid Rock Tubing 02/19 (FREE for Connections students, more info below)
  • 02/19 Homer SPARC Open Gym 1:30-2:30: Parent/guardian will need to either sign a waiver in person the first time their student plays, or they can do a waiver by going on their website at sparchomer.org. If students have already played an activity in the SPARC they should have a waiver on file. This open gym time will be every Tuesday through March (except during Spring Break 3/12)
  • 02/20 – Salmon Dissection @ Homer Office 1 – 2:30pm ADFG Biologists will lead a salmon anatomy lesson with dissection at the Homer office. Please contact Derek Bynagle dbynagle@kpbsd.org to sign up.

TOMORROW – RSVP’s NEEDED: GYM TIME for Central Peninsula: Solid Rock Tubing 02/19 (FREE for Connections students):

Solid Rock Tubing Hill is open and ready for all Connections students and parents! We will be enjoying the snow at Solid Rock Tuesday, February 19th: 11:00 – 1:00 and is FREE for Connections students. All home school families are invited, the cost is $6 (cash only) per person for non-Connections students/families. Solid Rock will have the tubes but in the past they have allowed students to bring their snow boards and ride the hill. Please RSVP or direct questions to Reubin Payne at rpayne@kpbsd.org

Soldotna Office: Connections Science Fair:

The Connections Science Fair is open to all Connections students, and is a non-competitive opportunity for students to explore a science related topic, create a display, and show off their display in the Connections office. See the attached registration form and rules/guidelines for more info, and please contact Mark Wackler (mwackler@kpbsd.org) for more resources to help with your project.

Homer Outdoor Club – XC Ski or Fatbike to CCL Lodge near Caribou Lake:

Join us Wednesday, February 27th from 10:00-3:00ish for skiing or biking! From the Homer office we’ll drive out East End Road and ski or bike from the “Blue Shed” parking lot to CCL lodge, about 3 miles one way on packed snowmachine trails. We’ll stop there, have lunch and return. Limited space available. While mainly flat, this can be a hard 3 miles depending on snow conditions so make sure your student is capable before signing up. Fatbike rental available for $69. Students will need to come prepared with winter activity gear. For more info and to sign up contact Derek dbynagle@kpbsd.org or 226-1880.

Iditaread Starts March 1st:

Our annual Iditaread program starts March 1st! So get out your favorite books or those you haven’t read yet and start keeping track of your reading minutes. When you’ve read your way to Nome and crossed the finish line, see your Connections Office for your prize! Outdoor Club: Snowshoeing at the National Wildlife Refuge:

Join us at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters on March 1st from 1-3pm for a fun snowshoeing activity, to be led by a KNWR education specialist. No experience is necessary, and this activity is open to all 2nd-7th grade Connections students. Please bring warm clothing including warm socks, gloves, and a stocking hat. Space is limited, so please RSVP as soon as possible by emailing Mark Wackler at mwackler@kpbsd.org

Soldotna Office: Thursday Art Share:

The Soldotna office is celebrating student art, grades K-12, every month! Paintings, drawings, ceramics, photography, digital art, etc… all are welcome and encouraged! Submissions can be dropped off anytime during the month, an art activity will start promptly at 3:15 on the Art Share day, see below for dates.

  • March: Spring theme! Thursday, March 7th from 3-4pm
  • April: Green Earth theme! Thursday, April 18th from 3-4pm.

**please note: any and all submissions are welcome regardless of theme**

2019 Homeschool Talent Show:

The 2019 Homeschool Talent Show will be on Tuesday, April 30th from 5-6:30pm at the Soldotna High School Auditorium. Connections is looking for homeschool students to join the show and display their talents (singing, instrumental, art, skits, whatever!). We encourage talents of all types and ability levels, and also have an art display at the entrance to show off our student’s artistic abilities as well. NEW: Soldotna Office – Free Tutoring:

We are very excited to have Sara Hadfield and Rebecca Weaver, from the Kenai Peninsula College, at the Soldotna office every week to offer free tutoring to our families.

Sara specializes in English as a Second Language (ESL) and language arts. Her schedule will be Wednesdays from 1:30-3:00pm starting Wednesday, February 13th.

Rebecca specializes in a variety of subjects: math, physics, chemistry and science. Her schedule is Thursdays from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

If you are a parent or a student that needs help in any of these areas, please call our office at 714-8880 to schedule an appointment.
