Connections Spelling Bee:

We are pleased to announce that Connections Homeschool is enrolled in the National Spelling Bee this year, continuing with a great tradition. All Connections students in grades 3-8 are encouraged to participate in order to build confidence, increase vocabulary and improve spelling skills.

Our local Spelling Bee date is Thursday, January 24th from 1-4pm. The 2019 Alaska State Spelling Bee is still to be determined.

A great way to prepare for the Spelling Bee is to work through the grade specific word lists, please see the attached spelling list. You can begin with the list at your grade level. Once you have mastered the 100 words on that list, move on to the next. The word list for the school Spelling Bee will include words that appear on the lists for grades 5-8.

The National Spelling Bee offers parents and students a season pass in Word Club for $24.99.

Word Club: THE Bee’s Online Study resource for spellers With a Word Club season pass, a speller can:

  • Learn at their own pace with more than 120 spelling and vocabulary tests covering more than 1,600 words from the Scripps National Spelling Bee s official study resources.
  • Study official Scripps National Spelling Bee definitions and word information.
  • Receive instant feedback on spelling and vocabulary knowledge.
  • Track progress in working to master the English language.
  • Website: http://www.spellingbee.com/wordclub

For word lists and information, contact Carole Nolden at 714-8880 or cnolden@kpbsd.org . We look forward to hearing from you!

Alaska Sports Hall of Fame 13th Annual Public Vote:

The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame is conducting its 13th annual public vote in. Public voting is open through the month of November.  Use the interactive ballot and help select the people, moments and events to be inducted into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2019. We encourage students and families to participate in the interactive voting page. This is a great classroom activity, especially for high school aged students.

Sports are part of the fabric of our culture and history in our crazily diverse state and we like helping educate Alaskans on some of the people, moments and events that help define who we are. Every year the public plays an important role in determining who goes up on the wall of our gallery at the Anchorage Airport.  Thanks for voting! http://alaskasportshall.org/election/candidates/
