Battle of the Books:

Calling all readers to our annual Battle of the Books club! We will start meeting in November but students can get a jumpstart and begin reading the books now. Competitive teams are grades 3rd-12th. Books can be found at the public library, Connections offices will have copies that can be checked out or you can purchase the books using allotment funds. Contact your advisor if interested in participating in Battle of the Books:

Central Peninsula Gym Time:

Central Peninsula families are invited to come to gym time every Tuesday from 12-2pm at the Kenai Rec Center starting tomorrow – OCTOBER 2ND. We have organized activities, games and also free time for students of all ages to participate. Other homeschool families are invited and encouraged to participate. Please note: all students must have an adult present. Come check it out!

Soldotna & Homer Offices: Thursday Art Show:

The Soldotna & Homer offices are celebrating student art, grades K-12, every month! Paintings, drawings, ceramics, photography, digital art, etc… all are welcome and encouraged! This month’s theme is Outdoors and all artists will receive a small treat for participating.

Our gallery show in October will be Thursday, October 4th from 3-4pm and the theme is: Fall into Pumpkin Harvest!

November: Thankful theme! Thursday, Nov. 8th from 3-4pm
December: Winter theme! Thursday, Dec 13th from 1-3pm. We also have ornament craft stations and a dessert potluck!
**please note: any and all submissions are welcome regardless of theme**

Silver Salmon Egg Take at the Anchor River:

As part of the “Salmon in the Classroom” program, ADF&G invites students to participate in the silver salmon egg take at the Anchor River. The short presentation will be on October 4th from 12:25-1pm, and students will meet at the first parking lot to the right off of Anchor River Road. Directions: turn on to the Old Sterling Highway (next to the Anchor River Inn), cross the wooden bridge, take a right on Anchor River Road, first parking lot to the right. Outdoor Club First Activity – Gold Panning on the Kenai Beach:

Connections Homeschool Program’s new “Outdoor Club” will meet twice per month to explore a variety of fun outdoor & educational activities for all homeschool students. Students are welcome to attend as many of the meetings/activities they wish. Contact Mark Wackler at mwackler@kpbsd.k12.ak.us or 714-8880 for more info!

FIRST ACTIVITY – DATE AND LOCATION CHANGE: Due to a variety of factors, the Gold Panning educational experience will now be on October 8th from 12-2pm at Alaska Fishing Lodge & Cabins off Mackey Lake Road in Soldotna. Please wear warm outdoor clothing. There is no charge for this activity!!! This activity is suitable for all ages, and parents are welcome to attend as well. Space may be limited so please RSVP with Mark Wackler: mwackler@kpbsd.k12.ak.us

When: Monday, October 8th from 12-2pm
Where: Alaska Fishing Lodge Directions: From the Sterling Highway, turn on Mackey Lake Road, take a left on the 4th street called Delcie Dr, take a left at the T and go straight into the driveway with the sign that is covered up with black plastic, you can’t miss it!

KPBSD Annual College & Career Fair:

KPBSD College Fair is free and no appointments are needed! Representatives from more than 30 colleges will be available with information and to answer your questions. Students and parents can learn more about scholarships, loans, state and federal financial aid programs at the Financial Aid booth. Russian River Falls Guided Hike:

Join the Connections Outdoor Club on a fun and educational hike to the Russian River Falls led by Alice Main from the Kenai Watershed Forum. All ages are welcome, including parents, etc. Meet at the Russian River Falls Trailhead at 10am on Wednesday, October 17. This trail is nicely groomed and flat trail, about 1.5 miles each direction, and suitable for all ages & abilities. Don’t forget to bring comfortable clothing, rain jacket, comfortable walking shoes or boots, a lunch, water, and a backpack or day bag is a good idea. Please DO NOT bring any firearms, but bear spray is okay. There will be no charge for this activity, but please RSVP with Mark Wackler by emailing mwackler@kpbsd.k12.ak.us or calling the Soldotna office at 907-714-8880. Soldotna Connections Annual Fall Festival:

Come join the Soldotna Connections office for our annual Fall Festival October 31st from 1-3pm. We will have food, activities, games and trick-or-treating for students. Costumes encouraged, all ages and all homeschool families welcome! This is always a fun and well attended event that students look forward to so we hope to see you here!


All Connections High School Students are invited to attend a free guided tour, lunch included, of AVTEC in Seward on Friday, November 9th. AVTEC offers a variety of educational programs such as: Construction, Welding, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Maritime Studies, Electronics, Culinary Arts and many other courses.

Please visit the AVTEC website at https://avtec.edu/ and take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the programs available. Lunch will be provided so please RSVP Reubin Payne at rpayne@kpbsd.k12.ak.us or call the Connections office at 907-714-8880.
