What’s Happening 8-27-18

Welcome to the 2018-2019 Connections School year! Once a week we like to email our families with updates, information and activities happening in our Connections program. Central Peninsula Gym Time:

Central Peninsula families are invited to come to gym time every Tuesday from 12-2pm at the Kenai Rec Center starting September 11th. We have organized activities, games and also free time for students of all ages to participate. Other homeschool families are invited and encouraged to participate. Please note: all students must have an adult present. Come check it out!

Soldotna Office: OPEN HOUSE!

Rain or shine we will have our open house at the Soldotna Creek Park from 1:00pm-3:00pm. There are lots of fun activities including: face painting, kite flying and much more. We will also provide hot dogs & snacks. All home school families are welcome so please feel free to invite other home school families to attend, the more the merrier! All children must be accompanied by an adult. We look forward to seeing everyone!

PSAT:

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). This year the test will be given on Wednesday, October 10th at the Soldotna and Homer Connections office. Please arrive at 8 am for an 8:30 start.

· Students wishing to take the PSAT MUST sign up and pay the $16 fee by September 7. This is a non-refundable fee.
· Sophomores will benefit from the exposure to standardized timed tests. Juniors can qualify for scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation

Interested in Earning your Professional Merchant Mariner Credentials Before HS Graduation? AVTEC’s Young Mariner Program fast tracks high school students into a high paying, exciting maritime career without incurring any debt!

Students whom successfully complete this course have access to grant funding to pay tuition, room & board and US Coast Guard Credential fees for ALL AVTEC Maritime Training courses.

1. Sign up on the OneStop
2. Attend the mandatory meeting, this will be held on October 10, 2018 at the Work Force Development Center (across the street from KCHS) at 5 pm
3. Interview! If more than 10 students are interested then interviews will be held. These will take place on October 17, 2018

Free Shelf Overflowing!

The Soldotna office has a free shelf with quite a few items added. Please stop by during office hours to check out all the treasures!
