TOMORROW: Special Guest for Gym Time at Kenai Rec Center:

In honor of Healthy Heart month we are excited to bring Studio 49 and the Kenaitze Indian Tribe for guest appearances on February 20th! Studio 49 will have a mini POUND class to start us off. POUND is a cardio workout using drumsticks with choreographed movements to get the class literally pounding the floor. POUND class participants will be squatting, jumping and lunging while drumming. After the POUND session a dietician from the Kenaitze Indian Tribe will have a short presentation on nutrition and healthy food alternatives that includes a snack afterwards! Space and materials are limited so please call 714-8880 or email: cnolden@kpbsd.org to reserve your spot. We hope to see you next week!

Fish and Game Ice Fishing @ Sport Lake 02/22 & Johnson Lake 02/28:

Alaska Dept. of Fish & Game is inviting our central peninsula and Homer students to learn more about salmon by spending time on the ice, fishing at Sports Lake and Johnson Lake. Students learn proper fishing techniques, catch and release etiquette, ice fishing regulations, and safety on the ice.

What to bring: Thawed cocktail shrimp or other types of bait you can get at the store, zip lock bags or plastic grocery bags to transport fish that you would like to keep. Parent volunteers or anyone 18 and older that may be helping/fishing, please make sure you have a 2018 sport fishing license. And lastly, students will need to be dressed appropriately for winter weather.

Sport Lake: Travel approximately 2.5 miles north of Soldotna on the Kenai Spur Highway and 1.0 mile down Sport Lake Road to Moser Road on the right. We will meet at the boat launch before heading out on the ice.

Johnson Lake: Travel to approximately milepost 110 on the Sterling Highway to Johnson Lake Road, turn left on Tustumena Lake Road and take the first right at the Johnson Lake Campground. After pulling into the campground turn right (look for signs) to access the west loop of the campground. Parking will be in campsites throughout this loop. We will meet in the large parking area at the boat launch.

Central Peninsula Area: Sport Lake 02/22 from 10:00-11:00am
NEW TIME: Homer Area: Johnson Lake 02/28 from 10:00-11:30
