Spelling Bee Congratulations!
We would like to congratulate all the participants in our annual Spelling Bee last week. The competition went 25 rounds with Esme Wilder coming out victorious spelling “testament” correctly! She will go on to participate in the Alaska State Spelling Bee in March. Congratulations again to all our contestants and thank you to everyone in attendance for another successful tournament!
Esme Wilder – 1st Place Winner
Aubrey Wilder – Runner Up

Kenai Peninsula Youth Court:
The classes for new Youth Court volunteer attorneys will take place every Tuesday evening 6-7:30 p.m. starting January 23 through March 6, at the Old Kenai Courthouse (145 Main Street Loop, Courtroom A- in the State Office Building where LIO is also located, just next to Kenai Public Library). Classes are free and available to any middle or high school aged student from the Central Peninsula Area. There is no need to preregister.

These classes prepare students to serve as volunteer attorneys and eventually Judges in the peer court program, helping their peers who have been charged with minor offenses such as underage drinking or shoplifting. Students will learn about the Branches of Government, Elements of Crime, Locating Statutes, the Roles of Prosecutors and Defense attorneys, 4th, 5th and 6th Amendment Rights, Restorative Justice, and Courtroom Procedure. Once they complete the classes and pass our Bar Exam, they are eligible to serve in the program until their senior summer of high school. Students of all abilities and experiences are welcome, and in fact individuals with their own history of trouble often make our best volunteers.

Parents or students are free to call or text: Ginny Espenshade, Youth Court Director, at 398-4027 or e-mail at kpycalaska@gmail.com

Soldotna Office: Connections Science Fair:
