For re-enrolling students unexpended student allotments at the end of this school year (June 30, 2017) will be rolled over to the 2017-2018 school year provided the following conditions are met:

· Students must complete the entire enrollment process with Connections prior to August 31, 2017
· Connections encourages families to re-enroll by May 26, 2017
· Previous grade reports must be submitted
· Students must maintain continuous enrollment with Connections

SUMMER COURSES:

Do you want to use your spare time in the summer to get ahead on high school credits? The KPBSD is offering online courses this summer. Talk to your parents and advisor to see what courses would work best for you. As soon as you have decided click on the link (http://bit.do/2017summersession) to sign up for a course. Remember the sooner the better because they will fill up fast and it is first come first serve on who gets in the courses!

Jumping Junction End of Year Celebration:

Come join Connections for a fun filled afternoon on Tuesday, May 2nd from 12:00-2:00pm (this will take place Tuesday gym time also). Included in this activity will be:

· Mini Golf
· Jump Zone (socks required & 250lb weight limit)
· Cosmic Cannon Room
· Please bring your own snacks and beverages or you can purchase them at the snack bar.

Overnight Trip to Petersen Bay Field Station With Center for Alaskans Coastal Studies May 3rd – 4th:

Come experience unforgettable, interactive programs where students discover the ecology of Kachemak Bay. Don’t watch a movie about the fabulous four marine phyla, find them and observe their amazing adaptations to life in the intertidal zone yourself! Don’t miss this amazing learning opportunity.

· Open to all Connections students in grades 5-10.
· Departure by boat from Homer Spit on May 3rd @ 9:000am and return late morning on the 4th.

Attention all High School Homeschoolers: The Kenai Peninsula Homeschool Activities Committee would like to invite you to an Enchanted Evening of dancing and fun.

Community Service Opportunity for Jr’s & Sr’s:

Alaska Fish and Game is looking for Homeschool Juniors and Seniors interested in volunteering at this year’s Salmon Celebration at Johnson Lake on May 11th. Volunteers will assist Kenai Peninsula elementary students at various learning stations from 9 AM until 3 PM. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved and meet your local Fish and Game representatives while helping our local school children. Thank you for helping OUR local students learn more about Pacific salmon, one of OUR greatest natural resources.

Salmon Celebration:

On Thursday, May 11, 2017 the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Sport Fish Division, will be holding the 17th annual “Salmon Celebration” in Kasilof at the Johnson Lake State Campground from 12:00 am to 2:00 pm. This Salmon Celebration is being held to increase school student’s awareness of salmon and to foster a sense of stewardship towards this valuable natural resource. The “Salmon Celebration” will be open to all K-6 school classes from the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District. Great lunch locations can be found throughout the campground!

4th Annual Kenai River Clean Up!

The 4th annual Kenai River clean-up is coming soon, and Connections has the privilege of cleaning up beautiful Kenai River Fish Walk this year! Please meet us at the Soldotna Visitors Center on May 12th @ 1:00pm. Students of all ages and parents/family are welcome to participate. Please RSVP with Mark Wackler (mwackler@kpbsd.k12.ak.us) .

This is a fun and rewarding opportunity to help our community in its efforts to maintain a clean and beautiful environment, so we really hope to see you there!

• 1:00pm – meet at the Soldotna Visitors Center
• Dress in layers and wear appropriate shoes or boots
• Connections will supply garbage bags and latex gloves

Pathway to Poetry – Contest for Students in the Kenai Area:

The Parks & Recreation Department of the City of Kenai in collaboration with the Kenai Community Library and the Friends of the Library is hosting a program called “Pathway to Poetry”. It will include local Kenai students in grades 1st – 12th submitting original poetry to be judged by a panel of qualified judges. The students will be broken down into groups based on age/grade levels as follows: 1st- 3rd, 4th-6th, 7th-9th, and 10th-12th. There will be three winners from each category for a total of twelve (12) winning poems. The winning poetry will be displayed along a trail segment located in the City of Kenai. There will also be a recording of the students reading their original work. All participants will be given a certificate and winners will honored for their accomplishment with a celebration held at a local park where the first winning poems will be displayed.
